The Cape Lookout Lighthouse stands abandoned on an isolated section of the Southern end of the National Seashore, accessible only by boat. You can explore the grounds but the tower is closed. Cape Lookout Light was built in 1859 and survived an attempt to blow it up during the Civil War. The diamond pattern was added in 1873, while the light was automated in 1950. |
