In 2001, I created four CD-ROM projects for the Center
for the Support of Families and the DHR Office of Adoptions of
the State of Georgia. The Center has been in partnership with the
Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), Office of Adoptions, to
develop and present videoconferences for social work and mental
health professionals and foster and adoptive parents throughout the
state since FY 1999. The videoconferences have been designed based on
needs assessments completed by the Center, in conjunction with staff
from the Office of Adoptions and with input from foster and adoptive
families receiving services from DHR. Topics reference issues
relevant to areas both foster and adoptive families encounter in
preparation for and during placement. Examples of topics presented
include behavior management; separation, grief and loss issues;
medical issues; and adopting children with physical, mental, or
emotional disabilities. Using the presentation outline, workbook
contents, and videotape, the Center develops a multimedia training
course for use by those professionals and parents who are not able to
attend the Institute directly. These multi-media trainings are
self-paced, on-screen modules that incorporate digital video clips
from the Institute, audio clips, and graphic animations. Users
navigate through the lessons as they would through the pages of a Web
site, making the trainings easy to use. Each Horizon Institute
multimedia training includes a summary, quiz section, and hyperlinks
to outside reference sources. The project manager for this was Jim
Coursey of the Center for the Support of Families. |

In 2003 I worked on four different CD-ROM projects for Mangi
Environmental Group of McLean, VA. Mangi Environmental Group is
a small business that was established in 1993 to focus on NEPA and
related environmental planning and compliance support. Since 1993,
Mangi have served over 50 Federal agencies and organizations. Mangi
Educational Technologies, a division of Mangi Environmental Group,
develops training to enhance employee performance for industry and
government, specializing in innovative technological solutions. The
CD-ROM projects were developed to be compliant with Section 508 of
the Rehabilitation Act. "Section 508 requires that when Federal
agencies develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and
information technology, they shall ensure that the electronic and
information technology allows Federal employees with disabilities to
have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to
the access to and use of information and data by Federal employees
who are not individuals with disabilities, unless an undue burden
would be imposed on the agency." The Project Manager for these
CDs is Tony Petruzzi of Mangi Environmental Group. |
